Dry Needling
Myofascial pain (pain originating from the muscles) can arise from an accident, prolonged poor posture, repetitive movements, or stress, but also when muscles are not used for an extended period, for example after an accident or surgery.
The pain can be localized, but can also be radiating in nature and can vary from a dull, aching pain to a sharp pain.
Dry needling is a treatment technique in which a thin needle (acupuncture needle) is inserted into the muscle. By gently moving the needle back and forth, a local twitch response (contraction of the muscle) is elicited. Immediately after the treatment, stiffness may be experienced; this stiffness often transitions into more relaxation in the muscle after a few hours and is often accompanied by a reduction in pain.
